Things to Learn from @WalmartLabs

This week, Boyan Josic, CEO of Daily Deal Media is in New York City for first hand coverage of the Business Insider Social Commerce Summit. We’re diving in head first, and will be conducting one-on-one interviews with featured speakers, including a leader of @WalmartLabs, Chris Bolte.

Business Insider in anticipation of Chris’ part in the conference, has featured an excerpt of an article from AllThingsD, which explores how @WalmartLabs can be a place of innovation and how it can help us better understand consumer behavior and be a “test bed” for future products and platforms.

The article states something that we’ve known for some time; that the line between online and offline shopping is being increasingly blurred.

What are the three things that the social and e-commerce can learn from @WalmartLabs?

  • Use technology to deeply and quickly listen directly to your customers. Scott Hintz, founder of TripIt will speak about this concept at Small Biz Big Things in San Francisco on Tuesday
  • Experiment and don’t be afraid to not get things perfect – just improve
  • It’s ok to let (and even help) your customers go to your competitors, if its best for your customer
