Investors Help Neighborhood Social Media Site Raise $40.2 Million

nextdoorNextdoor is a San Fransciso start-up that developed a social media sites with a local slant. The free platform offers a way for neighbors to talk about local issues, recommend local services and protect their families. This application offers a way to discuss issues that directly pertain not only to your city, but to your immediate neighborhood. In addition, it can include discussions about the roads you travel on daily and the schools  that your kids go to or the best mechanic in town.

Recently launched with a new design, Nextdoor 2.0, now offers the ability to share information with nearby cities and provides extra help for neighbors to ban together to fight crime and keep their neighborhoods safe. It  takes the idea of a neighborhood watch to a whole new level.

Since their inception back in October, 2011, they’ve served 8, 075 neighborhoods and continue to grow, adding as many as 30 new neighborhoods every day. Since the trend is going mobile and local, Nextdoor has an opportunity for huge growth in the coming years.

Their success depends on the help of investors, however. They recently partnered with Greylock to raise $21.6 million. They’re raised a total of $40.2 million through Google Ventures, Bezos Expeditions and Benchmark and Shasta.
