Fans can tweet, Instagram, check in or update their Facebook status from the @Cafe behind the centerfield bleachers during tonight’s game against the San Diego Padres inside AT&T Park.
The Giants are known as one of the most social media savvy teams in Major League Baseball and have the most Instagram followers of any team. They rank fourth for Facebook and Twitter followers.
Inside the @Cafe, Giant’s related social media from fans around the world, as well as the team’s social media stats, are displayed on a 12-foot-by-4-foot screen. In a partnership with Peet’s Coffee & Tea, the cafe will sell drinks to visitors. Don’t worry about your phone dying either, there are phone charging stations in the cafe and at 10 other locations throughout the park.
The park has been in the works for the past three years, according to the Giants social media director Bryan Srabian.
Giants President and CEO Larry Baer said the presence and importance of social media became highly evident during last year’s World Series. According to Baer, the third highest number of Facebook “check-ins” in the entire world occur at AT&T Park, with only Times Square and Disneyland ahead of it.
“It’s very much a part of our lives … you can’t do business as an organization without a presence on social media,” he said.
