Groupon Acquires Indonesia’s Daily Deal Site Disdus
Groupon is growing its global presence by leaps and bounds and today word is out that the coupon giant has acquired Indonesian daily deal site, Disdus. The new acquisition, soon to be renamed Groupon Indonesia will be joining Groupon’s stable of international markets including the most recent acquisitions in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Willis Wee of Penn Olson, spoke with the co-founder of Disdus, Jason Lamuda earlier today.
“We were in talks with Groupon for the past 2 to 3 months, mainly to settle legal and terms within the deal. It was officially closed about a week ago,”
“We plan to increase market share by educating more users and expanding to more cities. The current site will eventually follow Groupon’s design. For now, it will still be operating under Disdus.com. We will also follow Groupon’s best practices in our daily operations,” Jason told us when asked about Disdus’s future plans.
Rob Solomon, the soon to be former President and COO of Groupon, who announced his resignation from the company last month gave his usual one paragraph statement.
“In just a few months after its launch, Disdus has become the market leader and a first class example of collective buying site. Groupon Indonesia will harness strength of the Groupon network to sharpen the way local businesses reach customers throughout Southeast Asia.”
