Local marketer NimbleCommerce has just announced a partnership with Mecom, a leader in the European news and information publishing business. Mecom will be employing Nimble’s ecommerce platform to power its Sweetdeal site. Sweetdeal is currently the number one daily deal site in Denmark and the number two daily deal provider of branded daily deals in the Netherlands.
Mecom has been using the NimbleCommerce platform and selling over 100,000 deals a month through its market-leading site in Denmark. Sweetdeal currently serves over 800,000 daily newsletter subscribers. Mecom plans to introduce the NimbleCommerce platform to its additional publishing properties across Europe.
“At Mecom, we pride ourselves on shaping local and national news and information publishing through innovation and insight, connecting with our audiences wherever they are,” said Marc Leimann, group consumer sales director for Mecom. “At the heart of the Mecom Group is the strength of 1.2 million subscribers and 40 paid titles—and a long history of innovation as the first pan-European publisher entering the daily deal market in mid 2010 with Sweetdeal.”
Daily deals help to create a publishing empire
Mecom publishes over 300 titles and employs more than 6,000 employees in four country markets. Combined, the company serves more than 40 million monthly users across all its websites. Mecom launched its daily deals in 2010 and is now active in four European countries as well as 89 local markets.
Mecom is the market leader in half of those markets. They have achieved this using their local marketing power that includes printed titles and online newspapers. Mecom is on a mission to become the number one go to company; bringing together consumers and fantastic merchant offers. The goal is to create local, long term and mutually beneficial relationships by combining information, media and merchants.
This is where NimbleCommerce comes in to play. Mecom’s platform was based on a custom-made solution. While the Mecom platform was sufficient, the company realized that the NimbleCommerce platform provided greater flexibility which is perfect for local marketing. Mr. Leimann believes he’s getting the professional excellence and scalability required to equip the company with a technology platform that will take Mecom to the next level. Capabilities include built-in support for multiple languages and full visibility into local requirements that match nearby news and consumer and merchant demand.
“We provide the scalability and native-language capabilities to help European customers succeed,” said Prashant Nedungadi, founder and CEO of NimbleCommerce. “We look forward to powering Mecom’s strategy, which puts products for the local community, consumers, advertisers, merchants, and media publishers, front and center. We are helping European publishers like Mecom re-invent their business models and income strategies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
