LivingSocial chalked up another very impressive deal recently. This time in Egypt, selling 4, 587 Burger King vouchers for a total of EGP 73,392 or just over $12,000 U.S. Egypt is a fairly new emerging market in terms of ecommerce, but it’s a growing attraction for Egyptian consumers.
Country Manager for LivingSocial Egypt, Sherif Korashy, said, “The great success of the Burger King deal proves that the Egyptian consumer is ready to embrace the cost efficiencies of the online world and that consumer confidence in online internet based card payments is on the rise. LivingSocial Egypt remains committed to the development of the market and the fact that 78 percent of the Burger King deal transactions were made via credit card strengthens our conviction in Egypt’s e-commerce potential.“
Those purchasing the offer also had the option of paying for their voucher by COD (cash on delivery). LivingSocial said the new payment option, only for LivingSocial Egypt, was a first for them and 22 percent of the Burger King deals were purchased via COD.
“Research conducted in December by LivingSocial showed substantial demand for cash collection as a payment option by our Egyptian customers. We take our customer feedback very seriously, which is why we’ve adapted to the local market and introduced this payment method for our division in Egypt.” added Korashy.
The daily deal site sold a voucher every 30 seconds during the first day with over 2000 being sold in less than two days.
