Up in arms over arms
Insight Training Center (ITC), a firearms safety training center with four locations in the Seattle area has teamed up with Groupon, the gorilla of daily dealings. The deal offers those interested a $145 training class for only $69. There are already over 1000 deals sold but it didn’t take nearly that long for this deal to raise a lot of eyebrows.
According to the ITC website, “This 4-hour all-inclusive class fulfills the Utah training requirement and gets your application ready to submit.” What has many up in arms over being armed stems from the fact that when “combined with a Washington license, the Utah permit allows its holders to carry concealed firearms in 33 states.”
Holy handguns batman
Seattle’s Fox 13 hit the streets and found that it’s not just gun owners that are excited about this deal. The reporter mentions that over 500 people had signed up for the offer in the first 24 hours. As of this writing that number has increased to over 1000. According to infowars.com, , the owner of Insight Training Center told Fox news that “he is extremely pleased with the outcome of his business decision, which he says gets people around the area to notice his business: “They let hundreds of thousands of people know you exist, so it’s good marketing.”
When it comes to guns and gun control, you can bet this story has a flip side. Some of the people interviewed by Fox weren’t too happy about the offer. Referring to the kinds of deals usually encountered on Groupon, one person told Fox, “Lattès don’t kill people; guns do, so I’m kind of thinking that this should be exempt from those kinds of circumstances.”
Once the two permits are obtained, students who have also paid the $51 Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification application fee will be able to carry in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Groupon spokesperson Julie Mossler released a statement saying, “The deals featured on Groupon are largely shaped by our subscribers’ tastes and requests; we regularly survey consumers and test new types of features across the country. Shooting ranges have performed well in other markets and we encourage Seattle Residents to let us know what they think.”
2nd Amendment constantly under fire
The 2nd Amendment is constantly under fire for one reason or another. The original purpose for the Amendment’s existence is to protect the ability of the people in their right to bear arms – not just for hunting. The mobile safety aspect of being able to carry concealed is second to the primary reason. This has been and will continue to be a very hot topic and now it seems as though Groupon has put itself right in the middle of that controversy.
