Washington D.C. based deal site LivingSocial is expanding its Indonesia online deal branch into the Bali marketplace. The expansion launched at the beginning of May with a special webpage on livingsocial.co.id, dedicated to Bali-based merchants and consumers to interact and make their best deals of the day.
“The Bali Daily Deals page is an opportunity to offer unbeatable deals for Bali residents, as well as inbound travelers with local merchants. This includes the traditional hotel, resort and villa offerings, as well as restaurants, spas, waterparks, beauty parlors and any merchant that wants to drive footfall from local traffic, as well as be featured in Indonesia’s major cities and overseas,” CEO of LivingSocial Indonesia, Rolf Monteiro said in a media release to Bali Daily over the weekend.
“It’s a win-win situation with merchants in Bali attracting more business and consumers having more access to the best experiences in Bali,” he said.
LivingSocial originally unveiled their Indonesian wing of the company when they acquired a local daily deals company called Dealkeren, which means “cool deal” in 2011. Currently, the daily deal site has 75 million members, around 1.5 million of whom are subscribers from Indonesia. Over 30,000 subscribers are based in Bali, according to recent reports.
“E-commerce is developing extremely well in Indonesia. With the growth of low-cost carriers like Air Asia and Lion Air, more people are now comfortable buying online. The banks also play an important role, providing relatively easy credit card or ATM payment schemes that help the industry,” general manager of LivingSocial Escapes, Asia, Nazar Musa wrote in an email interview.
“We’ve expanded into Bali for two main reasons. First, as a massive inbound destination from all over Asia and the world, it’s important that we work with the Balinese travel industry to create great promotions for our members throughout Indonesia, Asia and further.”
“Second, we have over 30,000 subscribers who are based in Bali. Now, alongside unbeatable travel deals throughout Indonesia, regionally and globally our new page will allow them to also interact with local merchants. They will also be able to buy products from our site which we will ship to them from our warehouse in Jakarta,” said Musa.
Jakarta, Bandung and Surabaya serve as LivingSocial Indonesia’s three key stores and offers various deals and experiences throughout the marketplace.
“[We] show a discount of over 50 percent on everything we feature on the site and therefore although the prices vary, the value is always the best. At the moment we are featuring more than 20 deals per day across all of our stores. However, we expect this to increase throughout the coming months as our pool of merchants and members grow,” said Musa.
“Currently we only feature deals from our office in Jakarta, however in the next couple of weeks we will launch our Bali site catering for the many members we have on the island. Alongside Bali, we’ll begin to target other key cities throughout 2013,” added Musa.
