Based out of Hong Kong, EtsyStore is alleged to be a scraper site that, until this week, was siphoning AdSense revenue away from Etsy proper. When items from the e-commerce site were encountered in the engine’s listings, the links would redirect users to the scraper site, where buy-buttons led to the actual items.
While questions regarding the scraper site had abounded on Etsy’s user-forums since March, sellers redoubled their concerns last weekend. By Tuesday the 20th, Google had purged the redirected links from its listings.
The leeches apparently cannot be contained for long, as similar activity has now cropped up on the world’s other leading e-commerce engine. Blocked from Google’s AdSense program, EtsyStore appears to have simply redirected its scheme through Amazon with another round of fraudulently encoded URLs – a matter currently under investigation.
