Groupon Creates New Holiday – Grouponicus

With the holiday season about to kick off, Groupon is gearing up to grab a substantial share of festive gift shoppers. The daily deals site has creating its own holiday called Grouponicus.

Groupon, noted for its clever and often humorous writing style (check out the site’s unsubscribe page), has just launched its new holiday promotional campaign complete with a separate Grouponicus site and newsletter. Now Groupon lovers can stretch their gift shopping dollars and buy some really great stuff for family and friends this holiday season.

The Grouponicus mascot is Groupo, the Bargain Bird, whom according to Groupon, children love (so don’t blame me if your kids have nightmares!).

Groupo™, the Bargain Bird™, is the dapper, snake-tailed, Grouponicus holiday mascot that kids love! On each night of Grouponicus, Groupo™ uses his nimble snake-tail to unlock your attic windows so that he may leave neatly stacked Groupons inside the ovens of his true believers. Kids, don’t forget to leave a pile of sand on your doorstep to welcome Groupo™—it’s his favorite snack!

With everyone’s speculation that Groupon may be selling to Google and that that may have something to do with the site’s current outage (Yup, it still says they’re updating the site), could it be that Groupon is just busy putting on their holiday garb?
