The word is out that Groupon is hiring at their Palo Alto offices in California. Sources are saying that the Chicago-based coupon king is gathering a team of technology experts for their west coast location in preparation for an IPO sometime this year.
Currently Groupon has a staff of 60 at their Palo Alto offices and is looking to fill an additional 100 positions for data analysts, software engineers and product managers. According to a Groupon spokesperson in charge of hiring, there has been an influx of resumes, with executives from Amazon, eBay, Google and Microsoft expressing an interest in joining the Groupon west coast team.
Groupon will be in tight competition with a number of other Silicon Valley companies offering attractive employment packages, including the mega-auction site eBay and one of Groupon’s newer rivals, Facebook. The social networking site just recently started offering Facebook Deals and plans to increase its current workforce of approximately 2000 by another 1000 this year.
